Product description

Prym Safety Pin 50 mm

A large 50 mm safety pin made of hardened steel. The long arm passes through several layers of thick fabric, and the hardened steel keeps its shape even when the pin is closed over a large amount of fabric. The pins come in a Prym box of 1000 and are sold individually or by the full box.

A safety pin is made from a single piece of metal wire: an arm with a point, a spring bobbin and a cap in which the point locks. On Prym pins the cap has no sharp edges, the point is polished and the spring is balanced, so the pin closes easily and stays closed.

Common uses

  • Threading wide elastic and thick drawstrings.

  • Pinning thick fabrics: denim, wool, fleece, canvas and upholstery fabrics.

  • Temporarily closing a blanket, cover or curtain.

  • Attaching signs, badges and numbers to thick fabric.

  • Bundling clothes or towels in industrial laundering.

Who it is for

Sewing workshops and tailors who work with heavy fabrics, upholsterers, laundries and hotels, costume and set studios, and any household that needs a strong pin. For wholesale orders: phone 03-9444226 or WhatsApp 055-2473993.

Pro tips

  • Pin where there are fewer layers, and close the pin without forcing the arm.

  • When threading wide elastic, close the pin completely before inserting it.

  • On upholstery fabrics, pin along the weave direction so as not to pull threads.

Common mistakes

  • A large pin on delicate fabric. It leaves a visible hole.

  • Using a pin to hang a heavy item for a long time. The spring loosens over time. For permanent hanging, sew a loop.

Frequently asked questions

What is the length of a size 3 safety pin?

50 mm, in the Prym series. The next size, size 4, is 57 mm.

Which fabrics is a 50 mm safety pin suitable for?

For thick fabrics and layers: denim, wool, fleece, canvas, upholstery fabrics and blankets.

Is a 50 mm pin suitable for wide elastic?

Yes. It is long enough not to turn around in a wide casing, and easy to advance.

What is the difference between a 50 mm pin and a 57 mm pin?

Seven millimeters in length. 57 mm catches a bit more fabric and suits especially thick layers, and 50 mm is slightly more comfortable for everyday work.

Can I buy the pins per unit and not a whole box?

Yes. The pins are sold per unit, and you can also buy a sealed box of 1000 pins.

Do Prym pins rust?

They have an anti-rust coating. In prolonged humidity any steel pin may rust, so keep them dry in a closed box.

What sets Prym safety pins apart?

According to the manufacturer, the cap has no sharp edges, the point is polished and passes through fabric gently, and the spring is balanced so the pin opens and closes easily over time.

How do I choose a safety pin size?

According to the thickness of the fabric and the number of layers: 19 to 23 mm for thin fabric and tagging, 27 to 38 mm for everyday work and elastic, and 50 to 57 mm for thick fabrics and wide elastic.

Can I order several boxes for a business?

Yes. We supply whole boxes for sewing workshops, laundries, stores and events. Phone 03-9444226 or WhatsApp 055-2473993.

What is written on the manufacturer's box?

The Prym item number, the size number, the quantity (1000), the type of steel and a barcode. This makes it easy to reorder exactly the same pin.
