Product description

Full Body Dress Form: A Complete Look on One Tool

A regular dress form ends at the thighline. This is where the body continues: full arms, separate legs and a shaped crotch area, so you can also build and test pants, overalls, bodysuits, leggings and long evening dresses on the mannequin. In the fashion world, it's called full body form, and it's the usual tool in the studio that works on a complete look and not just on the top.

The body is coated with cream-colored fabric, with a feminine cut with curves of the chest, waist and thighs. The arms go down the length of the body, so you can put on jackets and dresses with sleeves and watch how the sleeve falls.

Hanging from the neck: Legs remain free

It is impossible to attach a central pillar to a mannequin with legs, as in a torso mannequin, because the post would pass exactly in the area where the crotch and the pants line are worked. Therefore, the mannequin is suspended from the neck by a fixed metal arm that protrudes from a side post. The groin, thighs and calves are completely empty, and you can put on pants, mark an inner seam line, and check the fall around the leg on each side.

The device stands on a base with four wheels, so the mannequin is moved between the cutting table, the mirror and the shooting area without lifting it.

13 dimensions with full table

The mannequin comes in one fixed size, to choose from 13: sizes 0 to 20 in the American system, including 7 and 9. Each size has nine data: neck circumference, chest, waist and thighs, front length and back length, as well as the circumference of the upper thigh, knee and calf, without which it is difficult to model accurate pants. In the table, you can see that in sizes 7 and 9, the front and back lengths are shorter than sizes 6 and 8 next to them, so you choose according to the numbers and not according to the order of measurements. The full table appears in the technical specifications.

Common Uses

  • Sampling and cutting of pants, jeans, overalls and leggings.

  • Drifping work on evening dresses and long wedding dresses, including a fall test along the leg.

  • Bodysuits, swimsuits, and sportswear that pass through the groin.

  • Dressing up a complete look for a catalogue photo or display in the studio.

  • Teaching and demonstration in the classroom, when you want to show the connection between the upper and lower figures.

Who is it suitable for

  • Fashion designers who work on complete collections.

  • Models and cuts makers in fashion houses and manufacturing plants.

  • Fashion design schools and fashion majors.

  • From sewing for evening dresses to bridesmaids that test length and fall to the leg.

  • Fashion photography studio.

Pro Tips

  • Choose a size according to the critical figure for the garment: for pants, hip circumference and upper thigh; for a tight dress, bust and waist.

  • In sizes 7 and 9, the front and back lengths are checked against the figure, because they are suitable for a shorter torso.

  • Before working on pants, mark the waistline and thigh line on the mannequin with thin marking tape, to return to the same points in each measurement.

  • When moving the mannequin on the wheels, hold the post of the device and not the mannequin itself, so as not to overload the hanging point on the neck.

  • In long dresses, work with the fixture standing on a flat surface, so that the hemline is measured correctly.

  • Cover the mannequin with a cloth cover when not in use, to keep the coating free of dust.

Common mistakes

  • Choose by size number only: American sizes do not correspond to Israeli or European sizes. Compare the data in centimeters to the customer's measurements or the size table of the collection.

  • Assuming that size 7 is larger than size 6 in every given statistic: in the table, the neck circumference, waist circumference, and lengths in size 7 are smaller than those of size 6. Size 9 is also smaller than size 8 in some data.

  • Sampling pants on torso: without legs, it is impossible to check groin, internal stitch and fall around the thigh. This is exactly the job of a full-bodied mannequin.

How is it different from the modeling puppet on an adjustable stand

The site also has a female dress form for pinning pins on an adjustable stand with wheels, also in 13 fixed sizes. This is an upper body mannequin: it ends at the hip line, stands on a central pole and is suitable for shirts, jackets, dresses, and skirts. The mannequin on this page is full-bodied with arms and legs, hanging from the neck, and is chosen when you also need to work on pants, bodysuits, and full-length dresses. All dress forms are in the category of prototyping and dress forms.

Frequently asked questions

What dimensions does a full-body dress form have?

13 sizes in the American system: 0, 2, 4, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 12, 14, 16, 18 and 20. Each mannequin comes in one fixed size.

What are the circumferences of the chest, waist and thighs?

The chest circumference ranges from 81.3 cm in size 0 to 119.4 cm in size 20, the waist between 61 and 102.9 cm and the hips between 86.4 and 121.9 cm.

What dimensions of the leg appear in the table?

Upper thigh circumference, knee circumference, and calf circumference. Size 10, for example: upper thigh 54.6 cm, knee 35.6 cm, and calf 33 cm.

Why is the mannequin hanging from the neck and not standing on a pole?

Because the mannequin has legs, and a central post would block the groin area. The hanging from the neck leaves the legs free to work on pants from all directions.

What is the difference between size 7 and size 6?

In size 7, the neck circumference, waist circumference, and front and back length are smaller than those of size 6, and the circumference of the thighs is slightly larger. It is suitable for a body with a shorter upper body.

How do you move the mannequin in the studio?

The device stands on a base with four wheels, so it is rolled between the work areas without lifting the mannequin. Hold on to the pillar of the device and not the mannequin.

What is a full-body dress form used for?

For sampling pants, overalls, bodysuits and swimwear, and for working on evening dresses and full-length. It allows you to check the garment from neck to leg.

What is the difference between it and a regular dress form?

A regular dress form ends at the hip line and stands on a central post. The full-body mannequin includes arms and legs and hangs from the neck, so it is also suitable for pants modeling.

How do I order a certain size?
