Male display mannequins: what to know before you choose
Menswear sells on fit: where the shoulder line ends, how the sleeve falls, and whether the shirt pulls across the chest or sits smoothly. A male display mannequin shows the customer all of this before he even walks into the fitting room. When choosing a mannequin, check four things: the type of mannequin, its measurements, the material and the stand. Each of them changes how the garment looks and how much space the mannequin takes up in the store.
Types of male display mannequins
Armless upper torso
An upper body without a head or arms, on an adjustable pole and a metal base. This is the most popular choice for T-shirts, polo shirts, button-down shirts and knitwear. Our model is made of fiberglass with a matte black finish, with a 102 cm chest, 47 cm shoulder width and a pole that adjusts between 5 and 55 cm. This lets you set it low on a counter or high in a shop window.
Upper torso with arms
On an armless torso, a jacket sleeve hangs empty. With arms, the sleeve gets real volume and length, and the customer sees how the garment looks when worn. Suited to jackets, blazers, short coats, hoodies and long-sleeve shirts. You can also display accessories on it: a watch on the wrist, a tie or a shoulder bag.
Tailor-style display mannequin
A cream fabric-covered body with a wooden cap, chrome pole and wooden tripod. The mannequin has articulated wooden arms that move at the shoulder, elbow and hand, so you can pose it naturally. Height adjusts between 160 and 200 cm. The cut is slim (83 cm chest), so it suits slim-fit clothing, boutiques, tailoring studios and vintage-style interiors.
Male lower torso
From the waistline to mid-thigh, 46 cm tall. This torso is designed for underwear, boxers, swimwear and shorts. It is made of lightweight foam plastic and stands upright on any surface without a separate stand. The hip circumference is 96 cm, roughly a size M on most men's underwear size charts.
Full-body mannequin or torso?
A full-body display mannequin presents a complete look, with trousers and shoes, but it needs floor space and takes time to dress. A torso takes up little room, can stand on a counter, shelf or low platform, and is quick to restyle when the collection changes. In small and medium stores a torso is usually the more efficient solution. In a large shop window, several torsos at different heights create a composition without crowding the space.
Buying guide: sizes, material and stand
Matching the size to the garment
A rule of thumb for suits: the European jacket size is roughly half the chest circumference in centimeters. So a mannequin with a 100-102 cm chest fits a size 50 jacket and a size M to L shirt. Dress it in the same size or one size up, and gather the excess fabric at the back with a display clip. Avoid dressing it in a size smaller than the mannequin: the garment stretches, the seams open and the fabric can be damaged.
Material and finish
Fiberglass: a rigid, durable material that keeps its shape even under a heavy coat. A matte black finish doesn't reflect spotlights and makes light and colorful clothing stand out.
Foam plastic: light to lift and move. Suited to a lower torso and to shelf displays near the checkout.
Fabric covering: gives a tailoring-studio look and suits boutiques and warmly designed spaces.
Stand and height
On the shop floor, adjust the pole so the shoulder line is close to the customer's eye level. On a counter or platform a short pole is enough. In walkways a wide, stable metal base is best, while in a natural-style space a wooden tripod blends in better.
With arms or without
If most of the clothing in your store is short-sleeve shirts, T-shirts and polos, an armless torso is enough and quick to dress. If you sell jackets, coats, button-down shirts and knitwear, the arms are part of the sale, because the customer wants to see the sleeve length and the shoulder line.
Display mannequin or dress form?
A display mannequin is meant to show a finished garment. Its body is rigid and can't be pinned. For sewing, alterations and pattern making you need a padded form you can pin into. You'll find these in the male dress forms category, and can read more in our guide to choosing a dress form.
Tips for displaying menswear
Layers: an open jacket over a shirt shows the customer a complete look and encourages him to buy more than one item.
Different heights: two or three torsos at different heights create interest in a shop window.
Show the back too: turn one torso in each group halfway round so the customer also sees the back of the cut.
Straight waistbands and logos: on underwear and swimwear, center the waistband, because it's the first thing the customer looks at.
Cleaning: a soft damp cloth with a little mild soap. Don't use abrasive products.
For stores, chains and brands: bulk orders
A store with several branches or a brand exhibiting at trade shows needs a uniform display, with the same model, the same finish and the same sizes at every location. We also work as wholesalers and coordinate bulk orders for stores, chains, interior designers and product photographers. To complete the display, add display hangers for the clothes on the rail, and suit covers for storage and handing over to the customer.

Frequently asked questions
Which garment size suits a male display mannequin?
Rule of thumb: a European jacket size is roughly half the chest circumference in centimeters. For a form with a chest circumference of 100-102 cm, a size 50 jacket and a size M to L shirt are suitable. You can dress it in a garment one size larger and gather the excess at the back with a clip, but it's not worth dressing it in a size smaller than the form, because the garment gets stretched.
What is the difference between a torso and a full-body display mannequin?
A full-body form displays a complete look, with pants and shoes, but needs floor space and takes time to dress. A torso displays the upper or lower body, takes up little space, can be placed on a counter or shelf, and garments are changed on it quickly. In small and medium stores, a torso is usually the more efficient choice.
Men's torso with arms or without arms - which to choose?
For T-shirts, polo shirts and short-sleeve shirts, a torso without arms is enough, and dressing it is quick. For jackets, blazers, coats and button-up shirts, a torso with arms is better: the sleeve gets real volume and length, and the customer sees how the shoulder line sits and where the sleeve ends.
Can pins be stuck into a male display mannequin?
No. Display mannequins made of fiberglass or rigid plastic are intended for displaying a finished garment, and you can't stick pins into them. For sewing, alterations and pattern-making you need a padded form that you can stick pins into. You can find them in the Men's Dress Forms category.
Can male display mannequins be ordered in quantity for a store or a chain?
Yes. We also work as wholesalers and coordinate orders in quantity for stores, chains and brands that need a uniform display at several points. Delivery is nationwide. For a quote you can contact our team.
How do you display a suit on a male display mannequin?
On a torso you display the jacket, shirt and tie, and hang the trousers separately. On a full-body form you display the whole suit together, with shoes and a belt.
What color form suits a men's clothing store?
Matte black gives a modern look and makes light shirts stand out. White is neutral and suits almost any collection. Skin tone suits underwear and swimwear.
How do I clean a display mannequin?
A soft, damp cloth with a little mild soap. Do not use abrasives, solvents or polishes, which could damage the finish.
Can a display mannequin be used for sewing?
No. A display mannequin is usually made of fiberglass or rigid plastic, and you can't stick pins into it. For sewing and fitting garments you need a padded dress form.
Where is it best to place a display mannequin in a store?
Near the entrance, in the shop window or at the end of a department, at the eye level of passersby. Leave space around the mannequin, so the garment can be seen from several directions.
