Types of Garment Covers by Material
The material determines how long a cover is suitable for and which garment it suits. Months of storage in a wardrobe, a trip to the event venue and handing over a suit after alterations are different needs, so it is worth starting with the question of what the garment needs and for how long.
Non-Woven Fabric Cover
Non-woven fabric is made of compressed fibers that are not woven together. It blocks dust, light and handling, yet still lets air pass through. That is why it is the recommended choice for long-term storage of suits, coats and evening dresses: moisture does not get trapped inside as it does in a sealed plastic bag, which over time can cause odors, stains and yellowing of light-colored fabrics. The covers are available in white, black and grey. Black is opaque to light and hides the garment, while white gives a clean look that suits bridal salons.
PEVA Cover
PEVA is a flexible sheet that repels water, dust and dirt and, unlike PVC, contains no chlorine. A PEVA cover is especially suited to transport and travel: for a garment that travels by car, by plane or between photo shoots, and for repeated use in a salon. Models are available in white, in black and in a semi-transparent version, most with carrying handles.
Clear PE Bags for Garments on Hangers
A thin, transparent polyethylene bag with a top opening for the hanger hook, with no zipper and no handles. It covers a garment in seconds, and you can see the style and color through it. It is designed for short-term dust protection, for dry cleaners, for seamstresses and for returning a garment after alterations, and comes in five sizes, from 75×75 up to 60×140 cm.
Gusseted Cover for Full Dresses
A regular cover is two sheets sewn to each other, so it is flat and presses on a garment with volume. In a gusseted cover, a side panel joins the front and back and turns it into a hanging compartment. An 8 cm gusset suits layered evening dresses, blazers with shoulder pads and wool coats. A 25 cm gusset is designed for wedding dresses: tulle, lace and petticoats stay spread out, and the train can rest at the bottom of the cover instead of being folded. The wedding dress cover with a 25 cm gusset also has a full-length zipper and a clear window.
What Size Cover Do You Need
The simple rule: the cover should be at least 10 cm longer than the garment, so there is room for the hanger and the hem does not press against the bottom. By garment type:
60×80 to 60×90 cm: shirts, blazers, short jackets and children's clothing.
60×100 to 60×120 cm: a suit, a jacket with hanging trousers, a knee-length dress and a short coat.
60×140 to 60×160 cm: long coats, midi dresses and short maxi dresses.
60×180 cm: long evening gowns, wedding dresses and ankle-length coats. For a dress with a wide skirt, choose a gusseted model.
A suit cover, also called a suit bag, is usually chosen in a length of 100 to 120 cm. With a gusseted cover you can hang a suit and a shirt together, or a dress with a bolero, on a single hanger.
What to Look for in a Dress or Suit Cover
Full-length zipper: put in and take out a dress with a train or lace without pulling it through a narrow opening.
ID window and pocket: see which garment is hanging inside without opening it, and keep a note with the client's name, spare buttons or a tie in the pocket.
Carrying handles: fold a 180 cm cover in half and carry it in one hand without it dragging on the floor.
Hanger opening and rounded shoulders: the cover hangs directly on the rail and the garment keeps its shoulder line.
Color: black for storage and shipping, white for a clean look at handover, and neutral grey for the wardrobe and the stockroom.
How to Store an Evening Gown or Wedding Dress in a Cover
Hang the dress on a wide, sturdy hanger, such as a wooden hanger, so the shoulders do not stretch.
For storage longer than a few weeks, choose a breathable non-woven cover rather than sealed plastic.
For a full dress, choose a gusseted cover and leave it room in the wardrobe so it is not squeezed between other garments.
Keep the cover in a dry, shaded place, away from direct sunlight and heat.
After the event, clean the dress before returning it to the cover for long-term storage.
Garment Covers for Businesses: Salons, Shops, Dry Cleaners and Seamstresses
Bridal and evening wear salons hand over every dress they sell or rent in a cover. Suit shops present a suit and coat in one at the point of sale, and dry cleaners, seamstresses and tailors return altered garments to the customer in one. HaBayit LaBubot sells every model both as a single unit and in bulk, directly from import. Businesses that want their name to stay with the customer after the purchase can order logo printing on garment covers, by screen printing or digital printing, on black or white non-woven covers, from 30 units. Before printing you will receive a mock-up of the logo on the cover. For a price quote, contact us.

Frequently asked questions
Which cover is better for long storage in a closet, plastic or non-woven?
For long storage, a non-woven cover is better. The fabric breathes, so moisture isn't trapped inside, and it still protects the garment from dust and light. A sealed plastic bag suits short protection, for example while handing over a repaired garment. Over months it may cause odor, stains and yellowing of light fabrics.
What size cover do I need for a suit and for an evening gown?
For a suit, a cover 100 to 120 cm long is usually suitable, and for a long evening gown or a coat down to the ankle, a cover 180 cm long is suitable. The rule: the cover should be at least 10 cm longer than the garment. For a dress with a wide skirt, it's worth choosing a cover with a gusset, so the volume isn't crushed.
How do I store a wedding dress in a cover without it wrinkling?
It is worth choosing a non-woven cover with a 25 cm deep side gusset, so the skirt, lace and train stay spread out and are not pressed against the front of the cover. Hang the dress on a wide, sturdy hanger and keep it in a dry, shaded place. The wedding dress cover with a 25 cm gusset also has a full zipper and a clear window for identification.
Can I print my business logo on garment covers?
Yes. We print logos on non-woven covers in black or white, starting from 30 units. Screen printing suits a logo in solid colors, and digital printing suits a logo with color gradients. Before printing, you receive a mockup for approval. All the details are on the logo printing on garment covers page.
Can garment covers be ordered in quantity for a salon, a store or a laundry?
Yes. All the covers are sold as a single unit and also in quantities, directly from the import, for bridal salons, fashion stores, laundries and seamstresses. For a wholesale quote, contact us. You can also collect free of charge from the store at 15 Kfar Gilaadi, Tel Aviv.
What is the difference between a flat cover and a cover with a gusset?
A flat cover suits a single garment in a narrow cut, such as a suit or an evening gown. A cover with a gusset has side walls, so it also takes a puffy dress, a thick garment or several garments.
What is the difference between a PEVA cover and a non-woven fabric cover?
PEVA is waterproof and easy to wipe clean, but does not breathe, so it mainly suits transport and travel. Non-woven fabric breathes and protects from dust, so it is better for long-term storage.
Why isn't the laundry's plastic bag suitable for storage?
The bag is meant for carrying the garment home. In long-term storage it traps moisture, and may cause odor and yellowing of the fabric.
How do I store a garment in a cover for a long time?
Put in only a clean, dry garment, hang in a cool, dry, dark closet, and avoid attics, basements and proximity to a heat source.
Can I fly with a garment in a cover?
Yes. A cover with handles folds in half and is carried like a bag. Before the flight, it is worth checking with the airline whether you can bring it into the cabin.
