Product description
Hardanger embroidery scissors: a sharp tip for cutting threads within the weave
DMC HARDANGER embroidery scissors, 9 cm long. In Hardanger embroidery you cut and pull threads out of the fabric weave itself, so you need a thin, sharp tip that slips under a single thread without damaging its neighbors. These scissors were built for exactly that.
The blade is made of stainless steel, and the handles are gold-tone metal, in the classic design of embroidery scissors. The scissors are also suitable for cross-stitch, hand embroidery and work with DMC threads and other embroidery threads.

Tips for Hardanger embroidery
Go under a single thread: Lift the thread with the tip of the blade before cutting, so you don't catch a neighboring thread
Cut close to the closing stitch: That way no protruding ends are left
Good light: On a dense weave, work in front of a good light source
Common mistakes and how to avoid them
Cutting the wrong thread: In Hardanger, a thread cut by mistake is very hard to fix. Count and mark beforehand
Using on thick fabric or paper: Dulls the thin tip
Storing without protection: Falling on the tip may bend it
What is Hardanger embroidery and why you need special scissors
Hardanger embroidery is named after a region in Norway. It is embroidered on an even-weave fabric, where it is easy to count the threads, and usually on dedicated Hardanger fabric with a density of 22.
Blocks of stitches: You embroider small rectangles of satin stitches over 4 or 6 weave threads, alternating lengthwise and crosswise
Cutting and pulling: Between the blocks you cut the weave threads themselves and pull them out, which creates the openings of the pattern
Why the scissors matter: You need a thin, sharp tip that slips under a single thread and cuts it close to the block, without damaging the stitches or the neighboring threads
According to DMC, the blades on these scissors are 2 cm long, thin, sharp and straight, exactly for this work.

Yes. The thin tip suits cutting embroidery threads in any kind of hand embroidery.
What is the difference between these and Kretzer embroidery scissors?
Both are 9 cm long. The DMC ones have gold-toned handles and are intended for Hardanger, and the Kretzer ones are made in Germany, with a curved forged carbon steel blade.
